In plain words

IS 16172, for buyers

Who asks for it

Coupler makers, contractors and project consultants

What it proves

That the joint is as strong as the bar, doesn't slip, and survives repeated and earthquake-like loading

What it covers

IS 16172

The Indian Standard for mechanical couplers that splice reinforcing bars — static strength, slip, cyclic tensile, and high- and low-cycle fatigue.

DSRI runs the IS 16172 series on its 2,500 kN and 2,000 kN machines, including large-diameter bar, reported under the NABL symbol.

Typical products. Mechanical rebar couplers and splices, on the customer's own bar.

NABL accredited testing laboratory vide certificate no. TC-12060 (ISO/IEC 17025:2017). Lines below are in the scope of accreditation and are reported under the NABL symbol; tailored profiles and methods outside the scope can usually still be run and are reported as non-accredited.
